Article: The Story of the Michelin Man

I found this article to be interesting in the sense that it follows the beginning to present existence of the character created by the Michelin Tire Company. Through the article, it was especially interesting to see how the character is changed by artists to reflect the time period and location of the advertisement. Throughout the hundred years of its existence, and as a result of the company growing larger and into other countries, the Michelin Man has undergone several changes to represent the people its advertising to. It's interesting to see how a well known logo today has changed throughout the years since it first came to be.

How to Ruin a Design Response

In many ways, I agree with what the author said in his article about keeping and improving designs. In many cases, like he states, simplicity should be the way to go, especially when, in cases such like driving, it is necessary to have for the most part, universal understanding. I do feel, however, that the author starts to rant halfway through the article when he bases his opinion not on practicality, but rather appearance-what he calls a mockery- of company designs. While I understand the need for good design in areas of transportation, I do not believe that what he considers "good design" applies to everyone...such as the chairs he mentions later on.

Aside from required computer classes in school, very little.

Computer graphics design

3. What do you hope to get out of this class?
I hope to become more experienced in graphic programs, to be able to use them, since I have only experienced using Gimp, as well as to become more skilled in graphic design.
4. Who is your favorite artist?
I don't really have a favorite artist, though I do like Van Gogh.
5. Write a five line story?
A sparrow hatches from its egg, an early monday morn.
It flaps its wings and tries to fly, but falls with wings all torn.
Again it tries, it tries and tries, and slowly lifts above.
Into the night, for day's now past, it flutters far away.
Into the night, reaching for day, the sparrow flies away.
